I’ve no idea how they work out viewing figures these days and aren’t arsed enough to Google it.

But they clearly have the info available to very accurately record it if they wish. They know exactly what you’re watching all the time, hence emails advertising ‘programmes you might like’ Or ‘similar programmes to recently watched’

There is an inaudible (to humans!) signal transmitted in a programmes soundtrack which is captured by a device attached to a TV set and this provides the information on what and when a programme is watched. That's how they can track timeshifted viewings.
The members of the selected representative household log in to another device when they are viewing to provide the demographics data.
As stated before, 'Project Dovetail' introduced methods to capture viewing data from other devices and this is factored into the calculated rating.
It is far from being 'made up' and the method used is accepted by the industry as a whole and businesses seeking to advertise on TV when determing how to much to spend and when they want them to air.

That is a great system and no doubt very accurate.......in 1970 :-) how many people watch TV live ? Does anyone under the age of 30 ? I can't remember when I last sat down to deliberately watch a programme.

'Overnights'- programmes watched live or recorded/accessed via on demand services on the day of broadcast up to 2am.
7+ days- Any viewing a programme within 7 days of broadcast
28+ days- Any viewing a programme within 28 days of broadcast
4 screen- data collated from viewing on devices other than TV sets.

They are keeping step with the changes in modern viewing habits.

Not really. We openly protested and booed their anthem. Plenty of season ticket holders didn’t attend any of the games either.

This is pretty different though, as you know. It’s a pre season friendly with a ridiculous kick off time, which should have been played probably in the midlands or a day earlier. People are justified in boycotting this game
 
If I lived in London, and had lots of money, and would be around in early August for the start of the football season with the shortest turnaround on record since the end of last season - then, yeah. Boycott. All day long. I’d picket the bugger, and give my ticket cost to a food bank.

We’ve been shunted fucking hither and thither for the sake of TV these last 10 years - that’s the price of success, and we get it - but the fan base is no richer than Middlesboro’s, or Hearts’s, or Carlisle United’s. Wembley’s a shit hole. And a hard-to-get-to shit hole, to boot. We should know.

Play next season’s in Buxton, whoever’s playing in it. See how the fuckers like it.

I go to (or used to, as this is one of the reasons I’ve stopped going) the rugby and the same happens there when a try is scored. Beer everywhere, everyone soaked and people constantly asking to get past you to-and-from the bar all game.
 
When and how are uefa going to refund CL tix holders for the dangerous imprisonment of City fans on the journeys to/from an unsuitable, rubble strewn converted athletics ground 30 miles from Istanbul ?

This must not be allowed to fade away.

1894 and the wider fan base must ensure that it’s profile is raised and commitments elicited from uefa.

You are missing the point. This match is basically a friendly. Win or lose it doesnt matter, it won't effect the team. This is the one chance supporters have to show the FA, Premier League, Uncle Tom Cobbley that the match going fan is sick of being ignored.
 
The charity/community shield is classed as a major honour, check out the rags, dippers and our honour list.
