2022 World Cup Discussion

What the fuck is Infantino going on about? Has lost his fucking mind?

“today I feel Arab, today I feel African, today I feel gay, today I feel migrant worker. "

Fuck me!
That’s actually been said?? Bwahahaha. That has given me a bloody good laugh. Cheers

It’s not the Qataris, or FIFA, or Southgate or the players that’s putting me off this World Cup, it’s the sanctimonious hypocrisy of the media going on all the time as if western cultural lifestyle is the yardstick to judge all other cultures by. It’s exactly the same as what they do to us and our owners. It’s racism.
If I am totally deep down truly honest my only real issue with it is it's now not the summer and getting in the way of the season, all the other stuff, human rights, attitude to gays, bribes, oppressive regeims etc could be equally said about many world cups before, Mexico, Agentina, The US, S Korea, Russia, South Africa even England were no paradises of civility and tollerance when they held their tournaments.

I can be hypocritical and say it is more than that but I, like many are just throwing stones at glass houses doing that tbf

I think the Argies might do it. Not expecting much from England or Wales, but the over-riding feel to it all is that this will be most probably the strangest football experience ever.

Wales ambition is to reach the knockout stage.England are looking beyond that.
England have talented players plus a few others from the Rags and Dips.
The waistcoat will demand the frugal approach designed to fit around Kane. He may well make them hard to beat. The weight of expectation is heavy.
I just hope they have both qualified when Wales play England.

That's an incredible fact really isn't it, I for one didn't know that you could get bladdered in Qatar and that they even have bars there.
They’ve got loads of bars and clubs, they just have to be attached to either a hotel or a sports club (the rugby club and golf club are both packed on weekends and have dance floors and DJs etc).

Very big expat drinking culture in Qatar and it’s also full of locals who simply wear western clothes to go out and drink.

Don’t blame you for not knowing though, the media is making out that it’s like Saudi.

You ever been to Wembley, or Arsenal or Spurs?
I would hazard a guess that a great deal of fans going to Qatar (certainly to watch England) will be the many thousands of ex pats living in UAE / Saudi and Qatar. So those prices wont be an issue to them.
The wages in Qatar for ex pat professionals are insane, a member of the golf club I’m a member off said his membership at the Doha GC was about £300 per month and rent was a grand a week. @SWP's back replied to a post a while ago, he’ll have pretty accurate figures on the cost of living out there.

Yeah it’s tax free and the wages are good but the expenses are also huge. You can’t own property in the main there and so every rents.

The rent costs are through the roof, living on The Pearl in a 2 bed apartment used to cost us north of £4k per month and our green fees at Doha GC was $1,000 per month for the Championship Course (ie full membership with a couples discount).

So despite the high pay and zero tax, the disposable income left for most people isn’t that much higher than it would be in a European capital. A head of Iceburg lettuce will set you back £5, beer £11-12, Hellmans mayo £5 etc etc, but petrol is cheap.

Not sure why but I couldnt give a fuck about the World Cup.

I generally find international football quite boring and just cannt get into it.....Euros 1996 was about the peak of my interest but nowadays i just dont care about it....Im not sure Ill even bother watching it

I felt the same about the Euros even when England got to the final...I wasnt even arsed about the result and only watched the game cause others were doing so.

Does anyone else feel this way. I just dont feel a connection at all with international football

I was in the Red Lion “pub” in Dubai about 2006, Dennis Priestly was in there and had been having a game of darts with the locals. The dart board was vacant and two locals wearing the traditional Dishdasha attire came in, ordered two pints of Boddingtons, got a couple of sets of darts, took off the headwear and had a game of arrows, surreal to me but apparently not unusual at all.
