Harry Kane

It's laughable that you've (presumably) followed this side for 5 seasons under Pep and you think Liam Delap is going to play 20 games - 1/3 of our games.

If he played 5 he'd be doing well. If he got near 10? Incredible. More than that? We've been fucked by an injury crisis like we've never seen before. Even before we spend £100m on a striker, I'm pretty confident that Torres, Jesus and multiple false 9s are all well ahead of him in the pecking order.

He's been promoted to the first team squad, that's great. Tommy Doyle got that same treatment in the press 2 years ago and has played 7 games in 2 years.

Foden was "in the first team squad" for 2 years before he played more than 10 in a season.

If Delap was about to play 20 games for us, he'd have been on the bench a lot. In reality, he didn't make the bench after the January covid crisis. He wasn't even on the bench for the 4th round of the FA Cup.

And that was an extended bench with 5 subs that won't be there next year.

Also he's 18, not 19, which you probably know also throws all your poor Foden comparisons out by a year.

Pep isn't giving a kid 20 games in his first season promoted to the first team. Sorry if that's news to you.
I didn’t say I think he would, I said that if the club (management) think he’s good enough then he will, just like Foden did, if he’s not as good as Foden ( like Doyle clearly isn’t) then he wont
Not sure why you’ve got your knickers in such a twist, all I said was that Kane would be a good signing and that a youngster could learn from him. Not that far out of the realms of possibility really is it.

Send me a PM if you have something to get off your chest, you clearly have.

It literally doesn't matter if he's the second coming of Ronaldo, he won't get a chance to show it. Pep doesn't trust kids easily, we should have all learnt that by now. It took the most prestigious talent this country has produced in 25 years several seasons to earn a squad role in this side, no one is coming in at 18 and playing 20 games in their first season in the first team unless there's an injury crisis.

It is beyond the realms of possibility, that's the whole point.

100m plus sterling ?, so approx 175m for kane ?
I don’t believe Sterling is worth £75m, he has been gash for a while.. tbh, I’d be glad to have his wages off the books and his space in the squad! (I might be alone, but I don’t think I am! and I know it seems harsh and he’s been instrumental in previous success, but not so this last year - he has been awfully frustrating!)

..Tolmie said once we see Spurs rejecting our bid, then it’s on! So I’m hoping this development means we might be finally getting a quality striker that we need!

Sterling is worth £50m-£60m minimum.
I’d be expecting more like £70m+
So that’s still £150m-£160m minimum.
Not sure why people think throwing a player in somehow brings the cost down.

It brings the actual money being paid down in a sense doesn’t it. Nobody would pay that for Sterling however using it in a transfer means we don’t have to finance 50 plus million more. Sterling leaves, his high wages are gone and we haven’t had to front more money. There’s the downside of what you don’t get back for him but like I say I’d be gobsmacked anybody paid that kind of cash for him if he decided to leave tomorrow

particularly when we'd need to replace them
Would we? Mahrez, Foden, Bernardo if he stayed with Jesus maybe getting a bit of time wide too. More game time for players meaning Bernardo may be a bit happier. It’s not an area of the pitch if we lost someone I think we’d need to invest heavily on

He or anyone else would still need replacing and if you want a better player then he’s gonna cost.
All it does is stop pundits and press saying we payed ‘x’ amount for a player, which will still be criticised regardless.
We’d still end up paying £150m+ as an example.

Kane in, Sterling out, does not mean Sterling needs replacing… we have Foden, Jesus, Bernardo, Mahrez! If Sterling were to be sold, he doesn’t need replacing - we have enough in the squad to cope! (Id hope we get in Grealish, but that isn’t necessary to replace Sterling.)

Interesting to see how this develops and how much we are prepared to bid before we look elsewhere. Certainly don't want to lose Laporte or Jesus and I am not sure Sterling would go to Spurs. I would offer Ake plus £70m which may be of interest to Spurs.

Personally, I would prefer Haaland, but it looks like Pep wants Kane.
