    Red wine suggestions please...

Quite acceptable with some very light red wines (and that's according to a few wine critics in the press, not just weird old me) and actively encouraged on some bottles (check out the Brown Brothers' Tarrango as mentioned in my OP). Sacrilege with heavier wines though, I'd agree with you there...

Football mags when you were younger

Ah, happy memories. Trying to recall a few Melchester Rovers players and can only come up with Vic Guthrie (stereotypical Scots hard bastard) and Paco Diaz (stereotypical fiery Latino).

    Red wine suggestions please...

After years of drinking tongue-furring, teeth-staining merlots and cabernet sauvignons I've finally discovered the joys of light-bodied red wines, especially those you can chill in the fridge. I've tried a few from my local Sainsbury's (Brown Brothers Tarrango, Beaujolais Villages, own brand...

The Miracle of Castel di Sangro

Thanks for the tip. I too have read many, many biogs but this one has somehow slipped the net. Here's a tip from me: don't ever, ever, ever, ever make the mistake I made and pick up Peter Crouch's 'Walking Tall' (and before anyone says anything, I know I should have known better). The...

Great idea. I'm already a member of http://www.readitswapit.co.uk (brilliant for sports books) and it'd be great if we could replicate it on here...

New City book out at last...

IIRC (flicked through the mag at my local newsagents) the review was a bit dismissive as well...slightly unfair if it's not even been read yet. I'll be ordering a copy from Amazon and will make my own mind up. Might be a good idea for the author/publisher to correct the 'dissapointed' typo...

    Brain Wallynough

It was the generic 'comments' bit at the end of the online version that I tried to post in (doubt Sale has any say in that) but point taken. I shall target the organ grinder the next time he has a senior moment ;-)

Charles Sale got exactly the same fact wrong in his Daily Mail diary, too (maybe him and Brian 'panto dame' Woolnough compared notes over their Little Chef breakfast). Submitted a comment online telling him as such but, surprise surprise, it wasn't published! And he's the first journo to stick...

Wow, BL, you're busy tonight, starting threads about Steve Coppell, Billy McNeill, Peter Swales, Mark Ward...you writing a book about City enigmas or summat? ;-)

    Lake swallowing his tongue

More evidence that Gascoigne has traits of Tourette's Syndrome. He seems to almost be doing the ear-pulling compulsively, as if he has no control over it. I'm no expert, but all the tics and face-pulling that he was infamous for are classic TS; I'd love to know if he was ever assessed/diagnosed...

Blue blood: the mike doyle story

Me too. Spoke to him at a recent supporters' club meeting and IIRC it's out next year sometime. Some big London publisher has taken it on so it must be half-decent.
